Influence of Indian Knowledge Systems Practices on Corporate Digital Wellbeing and Employee Outcomes: Evidence from the Digital Workplace

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital workplaces has intensified concerns related to employee wellbeing, job satisfaction, and productivity, necessitating the exploration of alternative frameworks that promote sustainable work practices. Drawing on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), this study investigates how indigenous value-based practices influence employee outcomes in digital work environments, with a particular focus on the mediating role of Corporate Digital Wellbeing. Using survey data collected from 360 employees engaged in digital workplaces through social media platforms, the study employs Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with 5,000 bootstrap resamples to test the proposed relationships. The results reveal that IKS practices have a strong positive effect on Corporate Digital Wellbeing, which in turn significantly enhances both job satisfaction and productivity. While the direct effect of IKS on job satisfaction is not significant, Corporate Digital Wellbeing fully mediates this relationship. In contrast, the relationship between IKS and productivity is partially mediated, indicating the presence of both direct and indirect pathways. The findings establish Corporate Digital Wellbeing as a critical mechanism through which IKS practices translate into positive workplace outcomes in digitally intensive settings. This study contributes to the literature by integrating Indian Knowledge Systems into digital wellbeing research and offers practical insights for organizations seeking culturally grounded strategies to foster sustainable performance and employee wellbeing in the digital era.

    KM Vineeth received his Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. in Commerce from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, India. He also obtained a Masters in Business Administration from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India. He qualified UGC NET in Commerce as well as Management. With more than 19 years of total teaching experience and 10 years of post Ph.D. research experience, he is currently working as Associate Professor of Commerce at Government College Tripunithura, Kerala, India and a research supervisor for Ph.D. in Commerce at Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. He is also a member of the Board of Studies of Commerce/Management at different prestigious autonomous institutions in the State; viz., St. Thomas College Palai, Christ College Irinjalakuda, Sahrudaya College of Advanced Studies and the like. He is presently the Vice President of Indian Accounting Association Kochi Chapter and a Life Member of Indian Commerce Association. Moreover, he is a patron class member of Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage. He serves as member of different RACs, adjudication committees and peer reviewer to different journals.
