Abstract

This study explores the ethical dimensions of leadership through the Yakshaprashna episode of the Mahabharata, highlighting its relevance to contemporary management from an Indian Knowledge Systems perspective. By analyzing Yudhishthira’s responses to profound moral questions posed by the Yaksha, the paper identifies principles such as dharma-centered reasoning, commitment to truth, humility, compassion, and discernment as essential for ethical leadership. The study proposes a model of ethical decision-making rooted in these principles, offering guidance for navigating complex dilemmas, ensuring stakeholder equity, and fostering a culture of integrity and sustainability in organizations. By bridging ancient wisdom with modern management challenges, this paper addresses the limitations of Western-centric ethical frameworks and enriches leadership practices with culturally embedded values. The findings emphasize that the Yakshaprashna serves not merely as myth but as a timeless guide for cultivating reflective, equitable, and responsible leaders in today’s dynamic business environment.
