Asparagus racemosus, commonly known as “Queen of herbs”, is a plant in the Asparagaceae family known for its therapeutic applications for multiple disorders and diseases since ancient times in Ayurveda. This review aims to provide a clear summary of the traditional uses, phytochemical composition, and identified medicinal potential of Asparagus racemosus. This plant is a hub of phytochemicals, mainly steroidal saponins and steroidal sapogenins along with phenolics, flavonoids, polysaccharides, alkaloids and other secondary metabolites and has rejuvenating medicinal uses in the treatment of several health-related issues. Asparagus racemosus, as a medicinal herb, has been reported in experimental studies to have potential antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, adaptogenic, gastrointestinal, reproductive and galactagogue activity. As per the nutritional composition of Asparagus racemosus described by Devadasu and Martin (2025), it is also a plant with nutrients providing adequate amounts of carbohydrates along with plenty of proteins and fibres. However, although the plant has reported therapeutic potential, many findings are based on in vitro and animal-based studies and more well-controlled human clinical trials followed by validated analytical methods are essential for reliable research studies establishing the plant’s therapeutic efficacy as a scientific medical fact.
