Bridging Tradition and Pedagogy: A Comparative Study of Nine Vedic Terminologies with Bloom’s Taxonomy in the Context of NEP 2020

Abstract

This study explores the connection between ancient terminologies with modern Bloom’s Taxonomy. On 29th July 2020, India’s system of education was upgraded with the New Education Policy which was approved by the Union Cabinet. This replaced the 34 years old 1986’s education system.  This new policy is based on a hierarchical framework developed in 1956 by Benjamin Bloom to classify educational learning objectives into levels of complexity and specificity. These levels are: Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating and Creating. In comparison to this we have our aged back ancient system of learning which made the land of India a prominent place to get knowledge. We had universities (Vishwavidyalaya) like, ‘Nalanda’, ‘Taxila’, ‘Somapura’, ‘Odantapuri’ etc. and lower to the hierarchy we had ‘Pathshala’ and ‘Gurukul’ system of learnings, which ensured holistic development. But certain practices which ensured better concentration to learners of those ages are narrowed to merely a part of spiritualism and meditational practices. To make students aware of all these terms with other such terminologies is the aim of this research. The data for this study is collected from secondary sources, In ancient scriptures one can find words such as- “Dharana, Dharana, Sankalpa, Japa, Niyam, Yajna, etc.” very frequently, because these terms was a part of every student, who thrived for seeking and imbibing the knowledge for survival, progress and success. Concepts are connected with vedic stories which are basically referred from Ancient Texts like ‘Purana’ and ‘Mahabharata’s Adi parv’.

    Trivedi Mohit Kumar received his Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting & Finance Mumbai University, Maharashtra, India, Master of Commerce in Management Studies from Mumbai University, India. He cleared his NET and MH-SET in Management, and PET in Commerce. He is currently working as Professor in Don Bosco College, Kurla, Mumbai. He is also the owner of website named as ‘The College Point’ which provides interactive study to students studying in FY, SY and TY in commerce and management.
